Today (26 Dec 2019), Mr. Somkuan Tonjan, Director of the Weather Monitoring and Surveillance Division, Meteorological Department, gave an interview to Thai PBS Online that the factors that caused heavy rain and flooding in 5 southern provinces were the northeast monsoon that spread down and on 23-25 Dec, coupled with a strong low-pressure cell from Malaysia that blew up, causing heavy rain in the Sankalakhiri mountain range and into the areas of Narathiwat, Pattani, and Yala provinces, causing continuous rain for 3 days, with some heavy and some heavy rain alternating in some areas, causing severe flooding over the past 2-3 days.
